Qualifying Process – Part One

Once the criminal record checks and ADI registration have been successfully completed, potential instructors (PDIs) are clear to proceed with the qualifying process.

Part One – PDIs must prepare for a two-part theory test:

Multiple Choice

  • Part one starts with a multiple choice question test of one hundred questions.
  • Each question has four possible answers, one of which is correct.
  • For this computer-based, touch screen test you have ninety minutes.
  • The pass mark is 85%.
  • You do not necessarily need training to pass this section of part one.

Hazard Perception

  • After three minutes has elapsed the hazard perception element of part one will begin.
  • You will see fourteen video clips each lasting about one minute.
  • As developing hazards are identified you register this by pressing the mouse button.
  • In one of the clips there are two scoring hazards.
  • A maximum of five points can be scored for each of the fifteen hazards giving a possible total score of seventy five.
  • The pass mark is fifty seven.
  • We recommend you take training for this section of part one.
