A 19-year old man from Ipswich, who is registered blind, was sentenced to twelve years youth detention after admitting the manslaughter of a 20-year old woman. He killed her in a collision after stealing a car under the influence of drink and drugs.
A girl of 13 was driving a car carrying eight people when it crashed. The girl’s mother was sitting on the lap of a 14-year old boy in the passenger seat. The girl was practicing driving in a car park when she lost control and crashed in to an office. The mother was banned for twelve months and ordered to pay £300 compensation and court costs.
A boy of 9 was arrested for drink driving according to police records. He was breathalysed but when officers discovered his age they had to release him. He was one of thousands of under-18s arrested for car crimes in northern England in the last two years.
A young driver who was reading a text message when she knocked down and killed a grandmother was jailed for two-and-a-half years. The 20-year-old student was sitting next to her mother, a driving instructor, when she mounted a pavement and pinned the 63-year-old victim to a wall. The young woman had only recently passed her test and was banned for three years.
A 29-year-old man drove the four miles home after a party in a trail of sparks because he was so drunk he didn’t notice a wheel was missing. After pleading guilty to drink/dangerous driving he was given a three-year driving ban, a ten-month suspended sentence and a six-week curfew.
